Recovering Type A Personality

How do you prefer to keep your surroundings? I am mostly an organised person who knows where everything is. Except this one thing: a jacket I bought a couple (or maybe three?) years ago and I have not seen it in a long while.

I do not know if the laundry did not return it or I misplaced it inside my house. Unfortunately for me, my clothes are a little bit all over the house. Some are in our master bedroom, others in my spare room, and some others, including the linens, in my husband's room that he uses as his workshop. While these are champagne problems, I do not know where my beloved jacket is.

I could of course order a replacement but I refuse to do that because what if it shows up in a few days? Anyway, this is a long winded way of saying that I am not as organised as I think I am and I think I am okay with that.

I want to let go of this idea that I have to be this "perfectly organised, always having all the answers, and never makes mistakes" kind of person. I want to give myself the grace that I have given so many people in my life to make mistakes, lose things, misplace things, break promises, cancel plans, be sometimes late, and say no when I don't feel like doing something. Just writing this makes me breathe a little easier. Yes, it is nice to be type A but it is not our responsibility to constantly care for others and take on their problems/feelings. It is okay to give ourselves the same treatment we give those we love, care for, and respect.

Maybe my jacket will show up one day. Maybe in a few days I will organise and cull my clothes so I only keep what fits, what I love, and what still defines me. Maybe I will just say screw it and watch another episode of Superstore instead.

Nobody is perfect so you don't need to try to be, either.
